Summer 2022 Job Description: Social Enterprise Assistant

The Social Enterprise:

Remember Adventures is a seasonal Social Enterprise located at 365 Main Street, Tatamagouche on Station Road next to the Trans-Canada Trail. Proceeds fund fieldwork for Social and Environmental Advocacy in Mi’kma’ki. Seasonal revenue is currently raised in the following ways: Equipment rentals including Pedal Buggies, Bicycles, Kayaks, Board Games and Laser Tag; Sales of STEM books and games from Gran’s Book Shoppe; and Tatamagouche Adventure Suite onsite Airbnb Rental.

General Job Summary:

The Social Enterprise Assistant (SEA) shall assist in and carry-out various duties at the direction of the Manager including but not limited to: customer relations; retail sales; equipment rentals and maintenance; grounds, shop, and Airbnb cleaning; and other duties as reasonably assigned. You must have the ability and desire to work independently in a fast-paced environment with locals, tourists and cottagers visiting daily. A positive, outgoing, friendly attitude is required. If you have high energy and are organized, honest, motivated, flexible, with a great work ethic, sense of adventure and have excellent customer service skills; this job is for you!  Doubly so, if you are willing to learn and are interested in the Social Enterprise business model as a tool for funding public advocacy work.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities:

Requirements:

  • Canadian citizen or work visa for Canada
  • Excellent communication skills
  • 16 years of age or older

Also, not required (we’ll train you), but useful assets to have:

  • Retail sales experience
  • Outgoing and gregarious
  • Familiar with the Tatamagouche area
  • Second language
  • Outdoor recreation training
  • Bike Mechanic Skills
  • Interest and/or Training in Social Enterprises, Environmental Advocacy and/or L’nu’k Archaeology
  • Nova Scotia Driver’s License with clean driving record.

Remuneration:

$15/hour. Hours 10 am to 5 pm: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday starting July 1st, 2022, with last guaranteed workday Monday September 5 (Labour Day), 2022.  Note that at least five full days of onsite paid training at same rate of pay with management supervision must be done before this date (July 1st) during our business hours so that you are confident and ready to work independently in time for the July 1st weekend and beyond. During your interview you will be asked for the exact dates you can do this training so please be ready with this information at that time. This job is suitable for summer students and local seasonal workers. We are no longer operating the Caper Café so do not include guaranteed tips in your consideration for this position.
